Nikon D90 Coming Soon?

Barely 2 months after the launch of the latest second full-frame Nikon DSLR D700 on 1st July 2008, there has been rumors circulating around the Internet on next replacement for the D80.
Seems like the rumor is getting real for the new DSLR Nikon D90, where apparently the Nikon-related author David Busch has posted some key specs and release date in his Nikon Digital Field Guide website.
The US online store Best Buy and Circuit City seems to have the stock price listing at $1299, scheduled to be on sale September 7.
According to David Busch’s report, the D90 will come with the new 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G DX VR lens and will spot these main features:
- 12 megapixel resolution (D80 – 10.2MP)
- Larger LCD than D80′s 2.5 inch
- Live View
- Video recording (with built in microphone for sound)
- Faster 4.5 fps continuous shooting (D80 – 3 fps)
- HDMI port (for viewing on a HDTV set)
- GPS compatibility (at long last!)
The launch date is reported to be on August 27, 2008.
In my opinion, if the D90 does comes out next month, this would be a welcomed upgrade for the entry level Nikon DSLR users such as the D40x, D50 or D60. The current D80 users who are thinking to upgrade may find the excellent D300 model a better option instead.
Looks like Nikon’s main rival, Canon has some serious catching up to do.
