The official opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics will be held in the bird-nest like Beijing National Stadium at 8:00pm CST (UTC+8), 8 August 2008. If you have noticed the date and time has been deliberately set to 08-08 2008, 8pm, where the numeric 8 is considered an auspicious and a lucky number for Chinese.
According to the media some of the international artiste will be performing in the opening ceremony which includes Celine Dion, Taiwan’s Jay Chou, the enigmatic Sarah Brightman and China’s own Liu Huan.
The games will be participated by over 205 countries with over 10,500 athletes vying for the medals in a total of 302 events in 28 sports. The complete schedule sports event can be found at the official Beijing Olympics website here.
For those who are in Malaysia and subscribing to the satellite TV ASTRO, the channels to watch during these 17 days are channel 816 to 825(Astro SuperSport) and TVB Olympic Channel.
Another option is to watch the Olympic events online through broadband, I would recommend these using P2P internet TV player such as TVUPlayer or SOPCast. These free internet TV player requires client download, but worth it as they offers a wide line up of channels broadcasting the sporting events (not to mention other international TV channels).
Personally I prefer to use TVUPlayer to watch online TV broadcasting as the connection is pretty good with satisfactory video and audio quality. The player itself is free from any malwares so it is safe to use.
Download free TVUPlayer here and SOPCast here.
Have fun watching!
